    Description

Circa 1930 Tony Lazzeri Single Signed Baseball. If Lou Gehrig lived in the shadow of Babe Ruth, you can only imagine what life was like for Tony Lazzeri, who would have led the American League in homers during the fabled 1927 Yankees season if not for his two mega-star teammates. Like the man with whom he shared the right side of the Yankee infield for a dozen seasons, Lazzeri's life was far too short, the hard-slugging second sacker passing away in 1946 at age forty-two. These facts have served to limit the availability of Lazzeri singles to just a tiny handful--in fact, this is the first such example to reach the auction block of a major house in the twenty-first century.

The early Italian-American star provides a 7/10 black fountain pen ink signature, sealed for decades beneath a vintage coating of shellac. The ball is deeply toned and exhibits a degree of handling wear, though any condition concerns must be forgiven in light of the outrageous scarcity of a ball absent from even the most comprehensive of Yankee and Hall of Fame collections. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
