Description

Circa 1930 Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig & John McGraw Signed Baseball. A piece which would be well-suited to The Christy Walsh Collection presented within this auction, the listed baseball instead was presented with the pioneering agent's compliments to our consignor's grandfather, who had been a sportswriter for The New York American. The ultimate desk accessory, the "Babe Ruth Home Run Special" ball was autographed by Babe Ruth (who personalizes the ball to the journalist), Lou Gehrig, John McGraw, Nick Altrock and one other (unidentified), then mounted to an ink blotter embossed with the golden lettering, "Ed Frayne, Compliments of Christy Walsh." All autographs (with the exception of the unidentifiable example) present in the boldest of black fountain pen ink, with minimal surface wear to the Gehrig but the rest undeniably 9+/10. A special piece featuring three of the greatest New York City baseball figures of the twentieth century's first half. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
