Description

Circa 1930 Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig & Christy Walsh Signed Baseball with Great Ruth Inscription. This pioneering trio forever changed the sports marketing world, joining forces in a wide array of money-making endeavors from the famous barnstorming tours of 1927 and 1928 to various flirtations with print media and the silver screen. It's clear that Babe Ruth was feeling particularly playful as he claimed his standard sweet spot position upon this ONL sphere bearing the inscrutable identifier of a minor league beneath the National League umbrella, adding a notation reading, "I'll sock you in the nose." Ruth's autograph rates 7/10, with his notation slightly bolder.

Gehrig signs above, his inscription faded beyond legibility but his signature still unmistakable at a technical 2.5/10. Walsh, who adds an "In Person" notation, appears at a 7/10 level. The ball itself appears to exhibit game use, which could suggest it dates to one of the trio's barnstorming tours in 1927-28. Regardless of its source, this ball survives as an important memento of a tectonic shift in sports marketing, an essential stepping stone leading us to Air Jordan and beyond. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
