    Description

Circa 1928 Hall of Famers Multi-Signed Baseball with Ruth, Gehrig, Huggins, Cobb & Johnson. Well over a decade before the ribbon-cutting ceremonies of the Baseball Hall of Fame, one fan with a keen eye for elite talent set out to collect signatures from the brightest stars of our national pastime. We suspect that a contest between the New York Yankees and the Philadelphia Athletics was the source of the bulk of the fourteen autographs that appear on this non-official orb, as a 1928 meeting would have included the following legendary signers: Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Miller Huggins, Tony Lazzeri, Waite Hoyt, Ty Cobb, Tris Speaker and Eddie Collins.

The only Hall of Famer breaking the Yankees/Athletics theme is Walter Johnson, who would have been either finishing up his Senators playing career or beginning his minor league managerial term in the late 1920's. The balance of signers are contemporary Yankees: Bennie Bengough, Pat Collins, Cedric Durst, Myles Thomas and Aaron Ward. Autographs average about 6/10, and all are readily legible. It's pure gold from the Golden Age. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
