Description

Circa 1928 Babe Ruth Single Signed Baseball. The red and blue stitching of this special "Harwood League Special" and the lower panel stamping advertising the "Ford Safety Glass Exhibit, St. Louis on Parade" lead us to estimate the date of this signing around the 1928 season, as the two-tone stitching was very popular during the era and Henry Ford was widely promoting his new innovation in auto glass at the time. It's also interesting to note that the stamping reading "St. Louis on Parade," notes the town where Ruth and the Yankees would avenge their 1926 World Series loss to the Cardinals with a four-game October 1928 sweep. Perhaps it was even the Babe's famous 1926 Series home run that cleared the roof of Sportsman's Park and smashed through the window of an auto dealership across the street that inspired Ford's innovation. Of course, all of this is merely supposition--the tremendous quality of the autograph is nothing but empirical fact. Even a rating of 9/10 would not do justice to the incredible boldness of the blue fountain pen ink from baseball's greatest star, elevating this piece to the ultimate heights of collecting appeal. The ball itself is lightly and uniformly toned, presenting marvelously. A piece for collectors demanding only the finest. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication.
