Description

Circa 1927 Babe Ruth Single Signed Baseball. The Babe's legendary kindness to children is the story of this special relic, as an included letter of provenance informs us that it was a gift to the writer's father, who was handicapped and thus an obvious target for Ruth's empathetic attention. An included newspaper clipping appears to suggest that the State Theater in Long Beach, California was the likely venue for the signing, as Ruth was arrested there on a bogus charge of breaking child labor laws for allowing kids up on stage with him as he provided batting tips and signed baseballs. This event happened in January 1927, just months before the greatest season in Yankees history.

Nine decades later, Ruth's sweet spot application survives impressively, boasting 7/10 strength that sets the ball in the upper quarter of all known exemplars. The ball itself is a bit soiled, presumably from sandlot use prior to its brush with greatness, but there are no distractions of significance. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
