Description

Circa 1927 "Babe" Ruth Signed Baseball. Note the quotation marks around Ruth's celebrated nickname--they're important. The Bambino would drop the punctuation around the 1928 season, so its presence here is a major clue in establishing the presented sphere's precise vintage. The appearance of Dutch Ruether's signature on the northern panel strongly supports the assumption that the ball dates to the fabled 1927 season, as the star pitcher's pinstriped service began in late August of 1926 and ended following the 1927 Fall Classic sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Jack Scott, a lifetime National Leaguer, is on the panel below. In the absence of these two hangers-on, the offered orb would easily eclipse the $50,000 mark as a stunning single, as Ruth's sweet spot offering is an unimprovable black fountain pen ink 10/10. Quite possibly the finest Ruth signature we've ever encountered on a baseball. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
