Description

Circa 1880 "Figure Eight" Model Baseball. Spectacular ancient baseball artifact represents the first evolutionary step away from the "lemon peel" style that dominated the game of baseball until this point. The ball is skillfully constructed, perfectly spherical and well-balanced, and wonderfully preserved with every last stitch solidly in place. The importance of this piece is difficult to overstate--after all, such innovations as the curve ball and split-fingered fastball would never have become part of the game's lexicon. An important relic of baseball's archaeology.
