2011 Derek Jeter Game Used Baseball from 3,000th Hit At-Bat with Detailed Provenance. Derek Jeter joined baseball's most exclusive fraternity when he belted his 3,000th hit July 9, 2011. While the likes of the Bambino, Joltin' Joe, The Mick and The Iron Horse called Yankee Stadium home during their careers, none had accomplished the coveted 3,000 hit plateau. In anticipation of the big moment, Major League Baseball had the home plate umpire use specially marked baseballs each time Jeter came to the plate during his historic game. Steven Picciano and his father were in attendance the day of the event. Four baseballs were used during Jeter's at-bat. Three baseballs were fouled off (pitches 4, 6 and 7) while the fourth was hit for the home run. The second foul ball (on the sixth pitch) is offered here.

This ball would have been used for the fifth and sixth pitches. We did review footage of the at-bat to confirm the claim. This OML (Selig) ball features a black smudge from the point of contact. Another vital point of reference is the "J 1" located on the south panel. The ball is properly prepped for use. A detailed letter of provenance from Steven Picciano states this was the very baseball his father caught during the at-bat and has a complete accounting of the other balls from the at-bat. The original ticket Picciano used for admission into the game is included. Letter of provenance from Steven Picciano.
