Description
2009 Hideki Matsui World Series Game Six Home Run Baseball, All Proceeds to Haiti Charity.UPDATE: Mr. Matsui was gracious enough to autograph this baseball for us before the Angels' Monday March 29th spring training game in Arizona. He is pleased to see his home run baseball utilized for such a noble cause.
It was Walt Disney who coined the phrase, "Always leave them wanting more," and it's as true for the sporting world as it is for show business. Though Hideki Matsui's greatest game in pinstripes was likewise his last, he is guaranteed an ovation in the Bronx every time he returns, regardless of the jersey on his back. The 2009 World Series MVP chose the deciding sixth game to unveil one of the finest offensive performances in playoff history, all but singlehandedly assuring that the new Yankee Stadium would be christened in the same manner as the first, with a World Championship trophy.
Of his three consecutive two-RBI hits, Matsui's first was the most memorable, a towering home run shot to the second deck of the right field seats which put Pedro Martinez and his Philadelphia Phillies into a hole from which they would never emerge. Our consignor was seated in the sixth row of section 207 when the Yankee designated hitter turned on a full count eighty-nine mile per hour fastball and launched it just over his head and into a frenzied mob of souvenir seekers. As the melee swirled behind him, he spotted a small white object rolling along the floor just behind his seat back. He reached out and grabbed it, quickly stuffing the ball into his jacket as the crowd continued to frantically search for the ball while Matsui rounded the bases.
After order was restored in section 207, our consignor was convinced by his friend to reveal his find to the crowd, and many high-fives ensued. A new friend in the row behind was glad to snap several photos of the lucky Yankees fan holding up the gold-stamped ball like a prized fish with the vast expanse of the Stadium at his back. These photos are included in this lot along with the consignor's ticket and notarized letters attesting to the events from both the consignor and his friend who sat next to him that historic night.

For over two months the ball was stored in the consignor's desk drawer until the catastrophic earthquake in Haiti inspired him to put the baseball to good use. At our consignor's request, 100% of the proceeds from the sale of this baseball will be donated to the ongoing relief efforts in the devastated Caribbean nation. Heritage will likewise donate all commissions generated from its sale to the two charities designated by our consignor:
Friends of the Child of Haiti. A Peoria, Illinois based charity that runs a medical clinic in Cyvadier, Haiti. (www.fotcoh.org).
Lespwa Worldwide. A non-profit organization founded by a group of college students dedicated to the aid of the suffering children of Haiti. (www.lespwaworldwide.com).
