1999 Ken Griffey Jr. Actual Home Run Baseball with Umpire Provenance. The 1998 home run race was a three man battle for Babe Ruth's record. While Sammy Sosa and Mark McGwire eventually duked it out, Ken Griffey Jr. was felled by injuries. By the time this OAL (Budig) baseball finds a new home, Griffey Jr. will be the only one of the aforementioned in the Hall of Fame. This is the actual baseball Griffey Jr. connected on for his 31st home run of the 1999 campaign. A signed letter from first base umpire Durwood Merrill attends and secures authentication. The ball is properly prepped for use. One side panel has the following written in fading black ink: "Ken Griffey Jr. 7-23-99 HR# 31." The letter states it was part of Merrill's "famous event" baseballs which he collected through his association with Major League Baseball. The 1999 season was Griffey's final year in the Emerald City, one which he secured his final Silver Slugger and Gold Glove awards. Letter of provenance from Durwood Merrill.
