Managed by Larry Dierker in his rookie season as a skipper, the team was led by stars like Jeff Bagwell, Craig Biggio, and Derek Bell, forming the core of the powerful "Killer B's" lineup. Biggio had a career year, while Bagwell provided his usual mix of power and patience, and the pitching staff was anchored by Darryl Kile and Mike Hampton.
