    Description

1989 Nolan Ryan 5,000th Strikeout Game Used & Signed Baseball. "If you haven't been struck out by Nolan Ryan, you're nobody," Rickey Henderson told reporters after becoming the 5,000th victim of the all-time Strikeout King as his Oakland A's visited the Texas Rangers in Arlington. Before the at-bat, he discussed his potential milestone participation with home plate umpire Larry Young. "He said, 'If I'm the 5,000th strikeout, can I get the ball to give to my little boy?' I told him I didn't think either one of us could get out of here with that ball."

Certainly that particular sphere is proudly displayed in Ryan's own trophy case, leaving this ball used in that contest the best available to private collectors. It is inscribed by the legendary fire-thrower himself, "To Lach, 5000 K's, 8/22/89, Nolan Ryan" in 9/10 blue ballpoint ink. The ball was signed for Rene Lachemann, then a coach for the A's. OAL (Brown) ball exhibits solid game use and is accompanied by a handwritten and signed letter of provenance from umpire Young, who writes, "Please keep this signed paper as proof that this signed ball was an official game ball from Nolan Ryan's 5000 strikeout game." The first baseball from this event that we have encountered. Letter of provenance from home plate umpire Larry Young. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
