1977 Willie McCovey Career Home Run #490 Baseball, MEARS Authentic. Update: Only a copy of the letter of provenance is provided.

Mike Sadek's baseball career will rarely appear in baseball annals. But the backup catcher did provide the collecting world with some noteworthy home run baseballs - especially for Willie McCovey fans. It was Sadek who was stationed in the bullpen for a number of McCovey's home runs during the latter stages of his career. In most instances, the bullpen was located just behind the outfield fence. That gave Sadek and his bullpen brethren great access to baseball treasures. This ONL (Feeney) baseball reached the bullpen area at Cincinnati's Riverfront Stadium September 8, 1977.

A scuff is visible to the left of the Charles Feeney stamping. "9-8-77 Willie's 490th Career Homer vs. Cincinnati And Paul Moskau" is written in ballpoint. McCovey signed in fading black ballpoint (vintage) across the sweet spot and "#490" is written in thick red marker on an adjacent panel. For the record, McCovey smashed two round trippers that day, this was his first. A letter signed by Sadek secures authentication. The notations are listed as in an unknown hand, but were most likely written by Sadek.

This baseball derives from the only known complete collection of 500 Home Run Club home run baseballs, one of several on offer within this Platinum Night event. Copy of letter of provenance from Mike Sadek. LOA from MEARS, Authentic. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication.
