Description

Hailing from Johnny Bench's most memorable game & Roberto Clemente's last!

1972 Johnny Bench Signed N.L.C.S. (Game Five) Game Used Home Run Baseball with Letter from Bench. The 1972 season was another banner year for both Johnny Bench and his Big Red Machine. The game's best catcher earned his sixth All-Star berth, sixth Gold Glove and second N.L. MVP, after leading the senior circuit with forty homers and 125 RBI. Meanwhile, Cincy won ninety-five games and the N.L. West.

In the deciding Game Five of the N.L.C.S. vs. Pittsburgh, Bench hit ball presented here for a game tying home run. Later, George Foster scored on a wild Pitch which propelled the Reds into the World Series versus the A's. The ONL (Feeney) sphere is signed and inscribed "Johnny Bench, 1972 Home Run, Reds 4 Pirates 3, 10-11-72" in 9/10 blue ballpoint.

In his letter of provenance, Bench states that the ball was presented to him after the game, was a part of his personal collection and was on display at the Cincinnati Reds Museum. He also says that this Game Five of the 1972 N.L.C.S. was his most memorable game. It should also be noted that this was also Roberto Clemente's last MLB game.
