1970's Roger Maris Single Signed Baseball. "I never wanted all this hoopla," Maris once explained. "All I wanted is to be a good ball player and hit twenty-five or thirty homers, drive in a hundred runs, hit .280 and help my club win pennants. I just wanted to be one of the guys, an average player having a good season." Any dreams of relative anonymity were ended by his October 1, 1961 blast which made him the most controversial Home Run King until Hank Aaron took that title for his own successful assault on the Babe.
