Description

1967 Charles "Red" Ruffing Single Signed Baseball, JSA/BGS Auto 9. The Yankees leading ace of the 1930's was inducted to the Hall of Fame twenty years after his retirement, the beneficiary of a bizarre and long-since abandoned Cooperstown policy in which a second ballot would be held if no player had earned seventy-five percent of the votes in the first ballot. The top vote-getter in the second ballot would earn induction, ensuring that at least a single player would be enshrined every year. Ruffing and Joe Medwick had each earned only 72.6% of the first ballots, but Red beat Ducky 266 to 248 in the run-off.

This spectacular sphere is notated in an unknown hand, "2/16/67, Hall of Fame," the day that Ruffing was welcomed into the bronze brotherhood. The sweet spot signature earns every bit of its 9/10 rating, and the Official Little League ball is clean and evenly toned with age. Encapsulated by JSA/BGS, Auto 9.
