Description
A late-season gamer from the year of Clemente's third National League batting title
1965 Roberto Clemente Game Used Bat, PSA/DNA GU 9. Historic lumber exhibits heavy use from the closing weeks of a season that would find the heroic Pirate successfully defending his National League batting title, the third of four campaigns in which Clemente would claim the coveted silver bat. Though the Hall of Fame outfielder would go hitless with a walk and a run scored in the Wrigley Field contest that matches the "9/26/65" handwritten notation (unknown hand) on rear barrel, the dense population of ball marks and stitch impressions speak to multiple games of battle as Clemente pulled away from second and third place finishers Hank Aaron (.318) and Willie Mays (.317).Cleat marks and scoring on the barrel are key Clemente traits that elevate the scoring to lofty PSA GU 9 status, and the thirty-six inch length and thirty-six ounce weight are both precise to the Puerto Rican legend's ordering records for the Hillerich & Bradsby signature model U1 format. Blue rack streaks, correct for Wrigley Field, appear on the barrel, and a light coating of pine tar adorns the handle.
Now over four decades beyond his tragic passing, Clemente continues to gain strength in the collectibles market, a testament to his enduring legacy and the changing demographics of the hobby population. All indicators would suggest this trend will continue, reason for optimism for those with an eye toward investment potential. LOA from PSA/DNA, GU 9.
