1962 Opening Day Home Run Baseball & Congratulatory Ring from The Brooks Robinson Collection. The opening salvo from one of Robinson's most productive offensive seasons. The legendary third baseman topped twenty homers only five times during his Hall of Fame career, and this baseball started the first of that quintet, a second inning solo shot off multi-sport star pitcher Gene Conley that would prove to be the game-winner in a shutout of the visiting Red Sox at Memorial Stadium.

It would appear that the bruised OAL (Cronin) ball fell into the hands of a young fan, who applied his boyish signature to a side panel, before it made its way back to the author of the game-winning blast, who boldly signed a side panel above a (later traced over) notation reading, "Opening Day Home Run, April 14, 1962, Conley, Boston." The tracing, of course, does nothing to diminish the significance, and the autograph is not traced.

Also here is an attractive gold and genuine diamond ring that represents the fulfillment of a promise by a local Baltimore jeweler to gift it to the first Oriole to hit a home run in the home opener. Interior band is stamped "14K" and measures to a size nine (9). Letter of provenance from Brooks Robinson. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
