1961 New York Yankees Team Signed Baseball. It took one full calendar year for the Yankees to wipe the bitter taste from their mouths from the 1960 World Series. But in grand style, like everything else the pinstriped crew does, the '61 campaign was a year of unbridled magic. Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris dueled for Babe Ruth's time honored single-season home run record. Our entire nation checked the box score on a daily basis to see if either, or both, took the opposition deep.

Eventually, Mantle fell by the wayside leaving Maris in full control of his destiny. Since the AL pennant was a forgone conclusion, Yankee fans eagerly awaited Maris' journey to the home run record. On the final day of the regular season, Maris reached baseball immortality with a home run. The World Series was anticlimactic as the Yanks beat Cincinnati in five games. When the best Yankee team of them all is bantered about, 1961 is always near the top of the list. Signed by that iconic band of baseball brothers is the offered sphere which has a top coating applied to preserve the twenty-six ballpoint signatures. Taking residence on the sweet spot are Mantle and Berra. True enthusiasts know the challenge it is to get a true Mantle signature from that year. Most were penned by a clubhouse attendant. Not this one. We can link this ball precisely to '61 because the only common years Rollie Sheldon and Joe DeMaestri were teammates was that season. Those who signed include: Cerv, Blanchard, Howard, Sheldon, Hegan, Maris, Hegan, Coates, Terry, DeMaestri, Boyer, Clevenger, Kubek, Turley, McDevitt, Gonder, Lopez, Reed, Mantle, Berra, Stafford, Richardson, Arroyo, Johnson, Ford and one more. PSA/DNA has deemed the Ralph Houk to be of the clubhouse variety. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication.
