1960 Ty Cobb Single Signed Baseball. Just a year before his passing, the legendary batsman presented this peach of a single to his young friend Rex, providing the hobby community half a century later one of the most pristine singles available. Cobb's blue ink inscription, "To Rex Teeslink, From His Friend Ty Cobb, 7/4/60," remains just as bold as the day it was applied, and the "Official 97 League" sphere is shockingly white for its advanced age. The winning bidder may well choose to have the ball professionally graded, and should expect to have it rank very close to the top of the population charts for quality. When the great Tyrus R. Cobb passed away at Emory University Hospital after a long cancer battle at the age of seventy-four, Rex Teeslink and Cobb's nurse were the only two people at Cobb's bedside. Teeslink had developed a close friendship with the dying legend over the course of approximately two years that he served as Cobb's caretaker while attending medical school, and the Hall of Famer's affection for the young man is clear in the letters he sent and the artifacts he willed to him. Now approximately the same age that Cobb had been during their time together, Teeslink has released the following artifacts to the collecting public, some of the most unique and intriguing material from the legendary Georgia Peach ever to make their debut at public auction. Each lot will be accompanied by a signed letter of provenance from Teeslink.
