Description

1959 Kansas City "Zack Wheat Day" Baseball Signed by Nine Hall of Famers. Welcome to the brotherhood! Our consignor was able to track down the derivation of this remarkable orb, finding that it dates to a Kansas City ceremony in 1959 (the year is notated on the ball) honoring newly minted Hall of Fame inductee and longtime K.C. resident Zack Wheat. A great photo of the event (print-out included) finds the cast of signers in the front two rows at the Athletics' ballpark, a who's who of baseball legends. We encounter each in bold blue ink on the panels of the provided OAL (Harridge) ball, with only the honoree (Wheat is 6/10) dipping below a conservative 8.5/10 standard: Cobb, Cronin, Schalk, Foxx, Baker, Grove, Hornsby and Paul Waner. A few small spots of staining remain clear of the autographs and do little to distract. A super-high grade assembly of pre-war legends! Pre-certified by PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
