    Description

1959 Harvey Haddix Twelve Perfect Innings Game Used Baseball. There are some records which will never be challenged. Jack Chesbro's 41 wins is pretty safe as is Cy Young's benchmark for career wins. We are safe in assuming no pitcher will have enough stamina to pitch 12 innings of perfect baseball. This ONL (Giles) baseball was a part of the night's proceedings as it was fouled off and retrieved by a young fan. After the game, the fan personally mailed the ball to Haddix who kept it in his collection. While Haddix had win baseballs from each of his 138 conquests which included two World Series triumphs, this is the only baseball which resided in his collection that pays homage to his finest diamond hour. Steve Stout, sports editor for the Urbana Daily Citizen of Ohio, visited Haddix in his retirement years and marveled at the gem. In December of 1993, when Haddix's health was taking a turn for the worse, he gave this very orb to Stout and said, "I think you know what this ball is. I want you to have it." Haddix promptly signed a side panel and inscribed "5-26-59 12 perfect innings" in 10/10 blue ballpoint. The ball shows wear and is correct for 1959. Letter of provenance from Steve Stout, Editor of Urbana (Ohio) Daily Citizen. LOA from Heritage Auctions. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
