1958-59 Ken Aspromonte Game Worn Washington Senators Uniform from The Ken Aspromonte Collection. After two seasons at Fenway, Aspromonte was sent off to our nation's capital in a May 1, 1958 trade to join a young Harmon Killebrew and a tradition that includes legends like Walter Johnson and Sam Rice. Though the Senators may have been perennial cellar dwellers in the rankings, collectors are particularly covetous of the few available flannels deriving from the franchise's days prior to Minnesota relocation, and this complete kit is certain to draw them out.

The jersey is classic understated elegance, with "Washington" applied in arching two and a half-inch block across a fully-functional zipper front. Number "4" is similarly applied to reverse. Lower left front tail is tagged "Spalding [size] 40" above "4 59" embroidered directly into the jersey body. Game wear is evident, but the state of preservation is magnificent, with none of the holes or staining typical of decades-old wool garments.

Matching pants date to a season earlier, with a "Set 1 1958" flap tag sprouting from the waistband "Spalding [size] 36" tagging. Some rust staining near left hip is the result of years of storage against the buckle of the original belt, while a few other stains appear to be game-related. Letter of provenance from Ken Aspromonte. LOA from Heritage Auctions.

    The Ken Aspromonte Collection

Born in Brooklyn in 1931, Aspromonte made his Major League debut on September 2, 1957, just a few weeks before the Dodgers broke the hearts of his friends and family with their Ebbets Field exit. The skilled second baseman led a peripatetic professional career, representing six Big League franchises in as many years before crossing the Atlantic as one of the early American representatives of Japan's Nippon League. We find the souvenirs of that exciting career on the pages that follow, consigned to this auction by Mr. Aspromonte himself. Each lot will be accompanied by his personal signed letter of provenance.
