1957 Stan Musial National League Consecutive Games Record Game Used Baseball. Like the Iron Horse before him, Musial lived up to his own famous nickname with remarkable durability and force of will, topping 1930's Pittsburgh Pirates first baseman Gus Suhr's record with his 823rd consecutive appearance in a National League contest. The presented ONL (Giles) sphere was in operation for that meeting of the Cardinals and the Philadelphia Phillies at Connie Mack Stadium on June 12, 1957. Musial graciously gives a nod in his lengthy notations to his seventeen-year old teammate Von McDaniel, who "pitched dazzling ball for 4 innings" in his Major League debut. Musial would ultimately extend the streak to 895 games in August of that year, a mark that still stands as number eight in Major League history. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
Letter of provenance from the Musial family.
