Description
1956 Ty Cobb Single Signed Baseball. The first member of the exclusive 4,000 Hit Club has left his mark on this Spalding Official League baseball in blue ink. Ty Cobb, or "The Georgia Peach," is unquestionably one of the top ten players of all time, and certainly near the top of that list. Setting ninety major league records while he played, many of these remain intact, including highest lifetime batting average (.367) and most career batting titles with twelve. Cobb was legendary for his aggressive playing style and penchant for fighting, although much of his perceived negative personality has been discredited as mostly myth. Still, it hasn't hurt Cobb's standing in baseball lore as he remains one of the most highly collected players in the history of the sport. Here we find him a half century after his auspicious Major League debut, his fierce competitiveness long since directed from the baseball diamond to the stock market, where he once again asserted his dominion. We see that confident nature in the bold, oversized side panel application of his essential autograph, underscored with the "5/7/56" date of the occasion. The green ink signature and inscription has some slight bleeding and fading to the "Cobb," but otherwise is NRMT. The medium is an "Official League" sphere, lightly and evenly toned throughout with with prominent factory stamping.
This impressive single signed sphere will be a welcome addition to any high end baseball collection. Lot includes a period Wilson baseball carton fully intact yet showing some wear. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
