    Description

1956 St. Louis Cardinals Team Signed Baseball with Rare Charlie Peete. Most notable about this ball is the autograph of Peete, who had been the reigning 1956 batting average champion of the Triple-A American Association when he received a one-month, twenty-three game trial with the 1956 St. Louis Cardinals of Major League Baseball. Peete was projected by some as the leading candidate to be the Cardinals' 1957 starting center fielder, but he was killed in a commercial airplane crash near the Caracas, Venezuela, airport while flying to his winter-league baseball team in late November of 1956. His wife, Nettie, and their three young children were also among the twenty-five victims of the crash. Peete is the toughest of all 1950's debut player auctographs. The 1956 St. Louis Cardinals were a shade below the break even point in the 1956 season. Upstart Ken Boyer combined forces with veteran Stan Musial to provide a potent 1-2 punch. This ONL (Giles) baseball is signed by twenty-one team members in ballpoint ink. Most of the autographs are in the 8/10 range. The ball has age induced toning. Signatures include: Collum, Dickson, Konstanty, Schmidt, Sauer, Moon, Cooper, Peete, Lockman, Morgan, Poholsky, Blasingame, Nelson, Musial, Hutchinson, Boyer, Jackson, Moore and three more. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
