Description

1955 Napoleon "Larry" Lajoie Single Signed Baseball, Greatest Thrill! With only eighty-two homers in over ten thousand career plate appearances, it's little wonder that a grand slam stands out in the early Hall of Famer's memory. One early collector, clearly decades ahead of his time, asked for more than just a simple autograph when he handed this "Official 97 League" baseball to Cleveland's favorite son, inspiring Nap to add to his "Larry Lajoie" autograph the date of "5-12-53" and the inscription, "Greatest Thrill Home run with bases full." We would have guessed he would pick "Having the name of the Cleveland American League team named after me in 1903," but perhaps that was too long to write on the ball. In any regard, his blue ink writing survives at a 7/10 boldness, due in part to a coating of shellac that has turned an amber color over the passing decades. Clearly it's one of the most intriguing Lajoie balls from a very thin supply, so we expect considerable interest among our bidders. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
