    Description

1954 Old Timers Game Signed Baseball from The Enos Slaughter Collection. Baseball has always placed a high value on its history and, as such, Old Timers games are a valued component of The American Pastime. One of the earliest and most acclaimed of these formats was the 1930 Boston Post Old Timers Game, which featured more than fifty former Major League players and Hall of Famers from the 1880's to the 1920's. In fact, in 2017, Heritage sold a signed baseball from that historic event for over $10,000.

The ball on offer here today may very well surpass the aforementioned exemplar when one takes into account both condition and sheer star power. Dating from a very well-publicized old timers game at Yankee Stadium in 1954 (photos and film of which exist), this OAL (Harridge) sphere is packed with twenty upper echelon Hall of Famers, the likes of which have very rarely been seen on the same baseball.

Signed in green ink, the twenty-one autographs include: Cy Young (sweet spot), Al Simmons, Mickey Cochrane, Ed Walsh (twice), Fred Clarke, Dazzy Vance, Rogers Hornsby, Paul Waner, Jimmy Foxx, Gabby Hartnett, Frankie Frisch, Pie Traynor, George Sisler, Lefty Grove, Bill Terry, Charlie Gehringer, Carl Hubbell, Bill Dickey, Joe DiMaggio, and Phil Rizzuto. Of these immortals, four passed away in the 1950's, five passed away in the 1960's, and five passed away in the 1970's.

The ball has aged to a nice cream color, exhibits some very light rubbing and the league stamp is faint. Meanwhile, the autographs are all relatively equal in strength and report in at an overall 7.5/10 to 8/10. What makes this exemplar even more attractive is that it was acquired by Hall of Famer Enos Slaughter, who was an active roster player on the Yankees in 1954 and in attendance at Yankee Stadium on that wonderful day so many years ago. A once in a lifetime opportunity. Letter of provenance from the Slaughter family. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
