    Description

1954 Cy Young Single Signed Baseball. The man whose name is synonymous with pitching excellence ranks right up there with Ruth and Cobb in terms of hobby essentials, but his singles are tougher to find than either of his inaugural Hall of Fame classmates' as Young spent his retirement in much greater seclusion on an Ohio farm. Just a year before his passing at age eighty-eight, Young signed the side panel of this OAL (Harridge) ball, the black fountain pen ink remaining bold at a conservative 7/10. The ball itself has shed most of its stamping (the "Reach" logo allows us to identify as OAL), and faded blue ink below the signature is clearly in Young's hand, causing little distraction. The ball was assessed at VG-EX 4 by PSA/DNA, but the paperwork has been lost, along with the subgrade information. The ball remains, however, in its (unsealed) grading cube. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
