1952 Stan Musial 2,000th Hit Baseball. A fourth-inning single against Philadelphia Phillies southpaw Curt Simmons at Shibe Park established The Man as the first of three left-handed batters in Cardinals history to reach this vaunted milestone. It would prove to be Musial's sole hit in five at-bats that Tuesday night, but it extended his hitting streak to fourteen games, a fact that is notated on the side panel of the historic ONL (Giles) sphere. All of the details of the achievement are neatly penned on various panels of the ball, with a green ink "Stan 2000th" over the presidential stamping likely applied in the dugout immediately after the hit in order to provide quick identification. The thirty-one year old slugger would conclude the season with his sixth National League batting title with a splendid .336 final average.
Letter of provenance from the Musial family.
