Description
1951 New York Yankees Team Signed Baseball. The rapturous joy felt by Giants fans in the wake of Bobby Thomson's famous "Shot" was short-lived due to the twenty-seven gentlemen whose signatures appear on this OAL (Harridge) ball. The Yanks were unstoppable this October, even despite the fact that their rookie right fielder, a kid named Mickey Mantle, was lost to an injury that would plague him the rest of his Hall of Fame career in the Series' second game.
Mantle's supremely desirable rookie signature is placed upon the northern panel, just above the sweet spot autograph of the man whose throne he was destined to assume, the departing legend Joe DiMaggio. Those with even a passing knowledge of Yankees history are aware that 1951 represents the only season these definitive Yankees shared a dugout, making this arguably the most desirable of post-war team balls.
But the appeal of this particular specimen is amplified even further by the rare (on team balls ) appearance of Hall of Fame manager Casey Stengel, immediately to the west of DiMaggio. Other notables include Rizzuto, Berra, Mize, Dickey, McDougald, Reynolds, Henrich, Crosetti and more. Autograph quality averages a spectacular 8.5/10.
Unquestionably one of the finest representations in the hobby. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Full LOA from SGC Authentic.
