    Description

1951 New York Yankees Team Signed Baseball from The Gene Woodling Collection.

UPDATE: Please note that this lot is accompanied by a Full LOA from PSA/DNA.

The torch was passed in 1951 as Joe DiMaggio gave way to Mickey Mantle. Both pinstriped heroes signed this OAL (Harridge) baseball in ballpoint ink. The only common year for the duo was '51, and Tom Ferrick and Mantle were also teammates that one season. Thirty of the champions signed the ball - protected with a layer of shellac. Autographs average 8/10 while the DiMaggio penning has some chipping near the end of his name. "N.Y. Yanks 1952 World Champs" is written on a piece of athletic tape on the side panel which has Casey Stengel's autograph. This was mismarked by Woodling or a family member. Included are: Berra, Mantle, Coleman, Crosetti, Turner, Brown, Henrich, Byrne, Collins, Raschi, Shea, Houk, Silvera, Lopat, Morgan, Sanford, Hopp, Ferrick, Ostrowski, Mapes, Stengel, Dickey, McDougald and seven more. Letter of provenance from family of Gene Woodling.
