1951 Cy Young Single Signed Baseball.

UPDATE: This lot has a full LOA from PSA/DNA.

When the award given to the most valuable pitcher is named after you, then you probably have some pretty serious credentials. In conversations about unbreakable baseball records, Young's 511 wins, 749 complete games, and 7,354 innings are always mentioned.

The first pitcher to dominate after age forty, Cy Young provided instant validation to the upstart American League when he defected to the junior circuit in 1901. Fittingly, he was on the winning side in the inaugural World Series in 1903 and he pitched the first perfect game in American League history (and the first from sixty-feet, six inches) in 1904, at age thirty-seven. In that contest, he outdueled a taunting Rube Waddell, topping off his masterpiece with the comeback "How do you like that one, you hayseed?"

The "Wilson...Official Major League" ball on offer here is signed and dated in 9/10 ink "Cy Young Sept. 16, 1951" on a side panel with "Sunday" below the date on an adjacent panel. A very faint and barely noticeable "147" is penned in an unknown hand on a side panel. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
