1950's Jackie Robinson Single Signed Baseball. The recent release of the Hollywood biopic "42" caused a brief spike in prices for memorabilia related to this first African-American Major Leaguer, but it's a market that has enjoyed a steady rise for decades now. On its current trajectory, the presented sphere should draw the rapt attention of collectors with an eye toward investment potential, a blue chip stock charting a similar course to that of icons like Ruth, Cobb and Young. While Robinson may not have dominated the record books in the same manner, his unparalleled significance to the sport, and to the culture at large, earns him a place on that Mount Rushmore of our National Pastime, and his autograph is a requirement for any significant collection.

The stamping formats for ONL (Giles) baseballs produced between 1952-57 and those manufactured in 1963-69 are virtually identical, with the earlier models identifiable by the superior clarity of the stamping. The sharp stamping here suggests the earlier range, which would almost certainly file the Robinson signature that appears on the ball's side panel under the heading of "playing days." The "Best wishes, Jackie Robinson" inscription survives six decades of existence beautifully, a rock-solid 8/10. The ball is lightly toned with age while exhibiting no handling wear to note. A top-tier specimen. Full LOA from SGC. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
