Description

1949-51 Mickey Mantle Single Signed Baseball. It's the stamping style of the provided ONL (Frick) baseball that allows for the date range printed in our lot title, and any Mickey Mantle fan will know that it was 1951 that saw the Commerce Comet take his first steps onto a Major League diamond. He'd encounter this type of Official National League sphere in both the spring training contests that preceded his rookie season and the 1951 World Series that saw him tear up his knee in Game Two.

Furthermore, the distinctive signature format is the Mick's rookie format, so there's no chance that this ball was signed many years after its production--the latest we've seen this variation is on 1953 Yankees balls. When considering the large volume of baseballs that Mantle signed in his retirement, it's no stretch to say that fewer than 1% of all Mantle signed baseballs feature this rare early autograph. It presents in marvelous 8/10 strength beneath a rare "Best Wishes" salutation on the side panel of the lightly and evenly toned ball. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication.
