    Description

1944 Mel Ott, Frank Frisch & More Signed Baseball from The Battle of the Bulge. A quick search of the Internet will find the story of four brave ballplayers--Mel Ott, Frank Frisch, Dutch Leonard and Bucky Walters--who went to the Allied front after the close of the 1944 season to boost morale of our war-weary soldiers. This USO tour was nearly caught behind enemy lines during the Battle of the Bulge, a massive engagement second only to D-Day in World War II significance.

One soldier came home with this OAL (Harridge) ball bearing the signatures of that quartet of esteemed Major Leaguers. The signatures range from about 3/10 to 8/10, all readily legible. A remarkable keepsake from a little-known tale of service and honor in our national pastime. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
