    Description

1940's Mickey Cochrane Single Signed Career Timeline Baseball, PSA/DNA NM 7 - Highest Graded Exemplar!
Equally outstanding both offensively and defensively, Mickey Cochrane was deservedly the first catcher elected by the Baseball Writers Association of America to the Hall of Fame. A two-time A.L. MVP selection, Cochrane led the Athletics and Tigers to five pennants and two World Series crowns between 1929-35.

His successful rise from humble beginnings, fierce competitive spirit on the diamond, and immense likeability off the field made him a role model and inspiration to millions of Americans during the Great Depression when so many were struggling financially. Worship for Cochrane peaked when, as a player-manager, he led the perennial downtrodden Detroit Tigers to an A.L. pennant in 1934 and a World Series championship in 1935.

The Wilson "Official Adoption League" baseball on offer here is inscribed and signed by the Hall of Famer, first on a side panel ("To Arthur Mayer. Mickey Cochrane") and then on the sweet spot ("1925 Philadelphia Athletics, 1938 Mgr. Detroit Tigers").

Arthur Mayer could very well be the Hollywood film producer, but this is only conjecture. Also, 1925 marked Mickey's first year in the Major Leagues as a player, while 1938 marked his last as a big league manager. The ball has aged very nicely and evenly to a off-white/light brown tone. Equally nice are the neat and bold green ink inscriptions and signature. While inscribed balls like this have become the rage in today's hobby, they were quite rare when Cochrane penned this exemplar, making this offering all the more enticing. Probably the best and most unique Cochrane single ever offered for public sale, it stands as the highest graded Cochrane single in the PSA/DNA database at 7/10. Full grading LOA from PSA/DNA, NM 7. Auction LOA from SGC Authentic.
