1940 New York Yankees Team Signed Baseball. Coming off a championship season in 1939, the 1940 incarnation of the New York Yankees finished in a disappointing third place. Certainly much of this can be attributed to the broken spirit of the team still reeling from Lou Gehrig's illness that ended his streak in 1939. The 1940 squad still had some firepower, however, in the form of Joe DiMaggio, Bill Dickey, Joe Gordon, Lefty Gomez, Red Ruffing, and many others. This OAL (Harridge) orb features twenty-seven signatures, including the Hall of Famers already named, as well as manager Joe McCarthy, Earle Combs, Red Rolfe, Charlie Keller and more. The ball has a very aesthetically pleasing light layer of shellac, preserving the signatures in 7-9/10 condition. PSA and JSA have deemed Gomez and DiMaggio to be clubhouse versions. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
