Description
1938 Brooklyn Dodgers Team Signed Baseball with Ruth. After realizing that the Boston Braves would never hand the managerial reins to him, the Babe was burnt a second time by the Brooklyn Dodgers, who dangled the same hope before him and then hired Leo Durocher to replace manager Burleigh Grimes instead. While Ruth did serve as first base coach, in the end he would come to realize he was hired as little more than a side show attraction, meant to bring the curious to Ebbets for a chance to watch him knock out a few homers during pre-game batting practice. It would be the last time the Babe would wear a Major League uniform. Almost seven decades later his 9/10 autograph is still the sight to see on this ONL (Frick) ball he shares with twenty fellow Bums. Following the theme of hiring legends past their prime, we find a final season KiKi Cuyler among the signers, as well as Grimes, Phelps, Frankhouse, Hassett, Rosen and more. Signature quality averages 5/10, with only four (none listed) dipping below this level. Light shellac. LOA from PSA/DNA. LOA from James Spence Authentication.Auction Info
