    Description

1938 Brooklyn Dodgers Team Signed Baseball with Babe Ruth. When Babe Ruth retired as a player after the 1935 season, he longed to return to Baseball as manager. The Dodgers offered him a position as a third base coach for the 1938 season. Babe accepted the offer because he was led to believe that it was a steeping stone to a future managerial position. When he discovered that the Dodgers never intended to hire him as a manager, and that he was merely being used to draw fans to the ballpark, the Babe quit after the season and never appeared again on a Major League roster.

The highlight of this OAL (Frick) baseball is a large Babe Ruth autograph all alone on the side panel, to the right of the league stamp, in 6.5/10 black fountain pen. Above the Sultan is the following inscription, penned in another hand: "Jan 23-38, Pitts 1 vs Bklyn 8."

Sixteen other Brooklyn signatures on the toned and scuffed sphere include Hall of Famers Cuyler, Grimes, and Durocher, plus Camilli, Lavagetto, Bishop, Phelps, Brack, Rosen, Chervinko, Hassett, Tamulis, and Koy. These grade overall 1-2/10 and many are very difficult to decipher. Still Ruth is large and prominent and can be displayed proudly as a single. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
