1933 Washington Senators Pennant-Clinching Last Out Baseball. Oddsmakers had overwhelmingly chosen the New York Yankees, who had swept the Chicago Cubs in the 1932 World Series, to repeat as American League Champs in 1933, but the presented baseball would prove them wrong. OAL (Harridge) ball was gloved by a diving Hall of Fame outfielder Heinie Manush to preserve a two to one victory over the St. Louis Browns and punch the Senators' ticket to the 1933 Fall Classic. Though heavily worn, to the point where the rubber guts of the interior are visible where the stamping had once been, the vintage handwritten notation on the side panel survives admirably: "The ball that cinched (sic) pennant for Washington against St. Louis Browns, Sept. 21, 1933." Iron-clad provenance is supplied in the form of a signed letter from Sue Manush McCall, who attests that her father brought the ball home and that it remained in the Manush family until its sale in 2000. This would prove to be the last pennant won by the franchise until the relocated 1965 Minnesota Twins accomplished the feat. Included is a vintage news photo of the Senators celebrating in the locker room after this ball was caught. Letter of provenance from Heinie Manush's daughter.
