1931 Babe Ruth Single Signed & Inscribed 571st Career Home Run Baseball. The Babe led off the bottom of the sixth inning with a home run off Philadelphia Athletics ace Rube Walberg during a May 24, 1931 visit from the reigning World Champions, his sixth of an eventual American League-leading forty-six for the year. It would prove to be Ruth's last of a dozen seasons topping the Junior Circuit in that metric, and the man who would assume the throne for 1932, Jimmie Foxx, likewise reached a half dozen during the Bronx showdown from which this ball derives.

Apparently the fan in the right field bleachers who corralled Ruth's solo shot made it down to the dugout before the day was through and secured both a bold sweet spot autograph and the iconic slugger's own validation of the ball's special significance. On either side of the 8.5/10 autograph, Ruth has written, "No 6" and "May 24, 1931." The experts at Beckett and James Spence Authentication both confirm that the notations are in the Babe's hand. The OAL (Barnard) ball exhibits clear game use and a degree of later handling and storage wear to its shellacked surface. Only the date and a single letter of Ruth's name is affected by scuffing.

Ruth home run balls have been highly coveted by collectors for decades, and only a scant few are authenticated by the Babe himself, a fact that significant heightens the appeal of this specimen. Ruth would finish the season with a .373 batting average and 163 RBI's to join his forty-six homers, blocked from the Triple Crown by only Al Simmons (average) and Lou Gehrig (RBI's). A spectacular specimen from Ruth's last season as the sport's most dominant power hitter. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication. Full LOA from Beckett. LOA from Heritage Auctions. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
