1930 Babe Ruth Signed Baseball to Son of His Agent Christy Walsh. It was seven years ago that Heritage sold a wonderful letter sent from Ruth to the son of his pioneering agent Christy Walsh, speaking of his own time as a schoolboy at St. Mary's and advising him that, "...the main thing in life to remember is that your success and happiness in the future will depend upon your own efforts and not the money or clothes which you might receive from your parents. The most successful men that I know today were poor boys." That letter commanded a winning bid of $41,825.

Here we find an earlier memento of the special connection between Christy, Jr. and his legendary, unofficial "uncle," commemorating the youngster's first visit to the House that Ruth Built. The inscription spans two panels of the well-toned sphere, reading, "To Christy Walsh, Jr. From Babe Ruth, His first Ballgame, Yankee Stadium, June 29, 1930." Ruth would go hitless in the contest matching this date, a seven-to-six Yankees victory over the visiting Cleveland Indians, though his sidekick Lou Gehrig would launch his twenty-first home run of the season.

The marvelous sentiment of the inscription is matched by its spectacular boldness, the black fountain pen ink ink thundering from beneath an ancient coating of shellac. The ball's OAL (Barnard) stamping has faded significantly, and surface wear occasionally impedes minimally upon the writing, but we'll let the catalog imagery speak for itself. We must also note that PSA/DNA has spotted some virtually invisible writing on the northern panel, likely a notation in Christy, Sr.'s hand. One of the boldest Ruth autographs you'll find on horsehide. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
