Description

1928 New York Yankees Team Signed Baseball.
While the 1927 Yankees, immortalized in baseball history under the moniker of "Murderer's Row," tend to get all the attention, this subsequent pinstriped edition could actually be defended as a superior one, adding two future Hall of Famers to a roster already choked with world-class talent. Both of those new additions--Stan Coveleski (8/10) and Leo Durocher (7/10)--appear among the twenty-four signatures applied to the surface of this OAL (Barnard) sphere from the World Champs.

The iconic names continue with Ruth (7/10), Gehrig (5/10), Hoyt (twice: 8/10 and 4/10), Lazzeri (7/10) and Pennock (7/10), creating a force so unstoppable that their four-game World Series sweep over the St. Louis Cardinals to avenge a painful loss in 1926 seemed positively preordained. Other notables include Meusel, Bengough, Dugan, Durst, Grabowski and Collins. A light coating of shellac has executed its intended duty admirably.

The ball is accompanied by a letter of provenance from the daughter-in-law of a cousin of Lou Gehrig, who was gifted the important sphere by his famous family member when the Yanks visited his Detroit hometown. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Letter of provenance from family of original recipient.
