1928 Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig & Waite Hoyt Signed Baseball from Day of World Series Clincher. The story of the late 1920's Yankees has always fixated upon the offensive part of the equation, so it's nice to see a member of the team's Hall of Fame pitching staff get into the action on this OAL (Barnard) baseball. As Ruth and Gehrig drove in nearly 300 runs en route to another four-game World Series sweep in 1928, Hoyt notched twenty-three pitching victories against just seven defeats, earning a tenth-place finish in American League MVP voting.

But each of these men turned it up a notch in the Fall Classic, absolutely crushing the Cardinals in four straight games to avenge their painful loss to St. Louis two years earlier. Ruth and Gehrig each hit four homers in the Series, three of Ruth's coming in the Game Four clincher, with Hoyt as the complete game winner. Gehrig also launched one of his four long balls in Game Four. Surely it is because of this trio's heroism on October 9, 1928 that a fan chose to present this ball only to them for signing. While we cannot be sure who applied the "10-9-1928" notation to the ball, we can report it is applied by the same pen used for the autographs.

Hoyt and Gehrig each sign close enough to Ruth's sweet spot application for all three autographs to be viewed simultaneously, and they each survive in a narrow range between 7/10 and 8/10. The ball itself is lightly and evenly toned, and it's certainly possible it was used in the game too, though this is impossible to determine with certainty all these decades later. A remarkably special relic of Yankeedom by any standard of measure, this is a can't-miss opportunity for the advanced collector. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
