Description

1927 Philadelphia Athletics Team Signed Baseball. Ancient OAL (Johnson) horsehide bears the inscribed date "6/16/27," leaving us to conclude that it likely saw action in the home team's four to nothing loss to the Chicago White Sox at Shibe Park. While it would be two more years before the Mack Men would find their way back to the World Championship, the talent level on the 1927 team was incredible. Among the signatures we find on this sphere are Ty Cobb, Ray Schalk and Al Simmons. These autographs, and about ten more (including Earle Mack, Blackburne, Ehmke, Quinn) are quite readily legible, ranging from 3/10 to 8/10 in boldness. Several others are all but lost to the ages. A layer of shellac and a mounting hole near the handwritten date are noted, as is a "Y" shaped area of damage on one side panel that remains clear of all autographs. Not a pristine specimen, but a very tough team ball and a chance to own a genuine playing-days Cobb. LOA from PSA/DNA. LOA from James Spence Authentication.
