Description
1927 New York Yankees Team Signed Baseball. After his team posted just a single run in each half of an Independence Day doubleheader against the Yankees' tallies of twelve and twenty-one respectively, Washington Senators first baseman Joe Judge lamented, "Those fellows not only beat you but they tear your heart out. I wish the season was over." It was a common sentiment throughout the American League that year. By the time it had been brought to a merciful conclusion with a four-game World Series sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Yanks had come up just two runs short of an even thousand scored, a full 389 more than their opponents could muster. The team appropriately dubbed "Murderer's Row" is almost universally considered not only the greatest squad in Bronx history, but in that of baseball at large.
Top-quality 1927 Yankee team balls routinely command six-figure price tags, so this offering will be a welcome opportunity for many collectors anxious for a more affordable alternative. Ruth appears in secretarial format on the sweet spot, but the rest are the genuine article, including Gehrig (1/10), Lazzeri (1/10), Combs (1/10), Pennock (2/10), Shocker (7/10), Dugan (6/10), Collins (7/10), Ruether (7/10), Wera (4/10). Twenty-three autographs appear in total. Ball is a single-season stamping format OAL (Johnson), further assuring this elite vintage. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
