1927 New York Yankees Team Signed Baseball. Depending upon your frame of mind, you can either blame or thank Mark Koenig for keeping this amazing artifact out of the $15,000 range, which it would certainly realize if the Yankee shortstop hadn't ghost signed for the Babe on the sweet spot of this OAL (Johnson) baseball. We choose to see the glass as half full, a golden opportunity for a collector to acquire the absolute cream of the pinstriped crop without paying the price of a midsized sedan for the privilege. Let us concentrate on the importance of a team that wins any poll asking the identity of the game's greatest. Let us consider the absolutely authentic signature from American League MVP Lou Gehrig, the incredibly tough Urban Shocker, dead before the close of the 1928 season. Earle Combs is here, with Tony Lazzeri and Waite Hoyt, adding to the Cooperstown appeal. Dutch Ruether, in his last season, and Wilcy Moore and Julie Wera in their first, assure 1927 vintage. The balance of the starting team--Collins, Dugan, Koenig and Meusel are present as well. All listed are clearly legible, ranging from 3/10 to 8/10 in strength. The all-important Gehrig and Shocker are each a solid 7/10. Clearly it's a team sphere that packs some serious punch, and one that would find an appropriate home in any advanced Yankees collection.
