Description

1920 Ty Cobb Single Signed Baseball. Any Cobb single is cause for celebration, but playing-days examples are particularly (and properly) coveted by sophisticated collectors for their rarity and heightened appeal. Presented is one such example, an ideal OAL (Johnson) representation bearing a black fountain pen sweet spot signature from the Georgia Peach, notated, "Aug-17th-20." As the "official" start of the Live Ball Era, the 1920 season found the Hall of Fame's first inductee wrestling with a new offensive style that saw a youngster named Babe Ruth challenging Cobb's dominance as a hitter. Remarkably, Cobb's date notation places him at the Babe's former home of Fenway Park for a doubleheader with the Red Sox, another key victim of baseball's tectonic shift. Cobb's autograph rates 5/10 beneath a vintage coating of shellac, his date notation somewhat lighter. A special piece from one of baseball's most important seasons. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
